TT-01 XB (Extreme Built) by David Jun
Public demand for a high quality ready-to-run vehicle is higher than ever. Because of this, Tamiya has developed the all-new XB Pro TT-01 chassis that is suitable for beginner drivers to experts. The TT-01 is
completely assembled at the factory with a polycarbonate body that is painted, trimmed and stickered. A digital proportional 2-channel pistol grip radio is standard and the receiver is built into the electronic speed controller as one unit (CPR Unit). The TT-01 chassis features a longitudinally mounted motor for efficient power delivery through a shaft driven 4WD drive train.
This extremely efficient design is similar to the drive train used on Tamiya's full competition model chassis such as the TB Evolution III. Not only does this design increase run time but it also allows for efficient weight distribution.
The battery is positioned longitudinally on the opposite side of the motor, receiver and speed controller. This provides a near 50/50 weight balance with the drive shaft running down the center. The steering geometry features a linear angle for predictable response and tight cornering. In addition, the front and rear suspension geometry is semi-symmetrical. All of these features promote smooth, stable and very neutral handling and a 540 size motor provides the forward drive.
Handling
Out of the box, the TT-01 is extremely easy to drive. The 4WD system, coupled with the 4-wheel independent suspension provides good traction, even in rough or bumpy roads. Left and right direction changes are crisp and precise. For competition, Tamiya offers hop-up options that can enhance the chassis characteristics for racing. One of the most important components of a car is the tires. For more traction, Tamiya has several tire options to choose from.
Tire inserts are also equally important. The inserts support the tire much like air pressure in a full size car. Tamiya offers several tire inserts to suit various track conditions.
With added traction, there will be a need for additional dampening. Tamiya offers an oil filled damper set to not only absorb bumps but also reduce chassis roll and stabilize weight transfer. These dampers can also be adjusted with different viscosity oil to either soften or stiffen the dampening. The CVA Mini Shock Unit (item #53619) can be seen on the right.
Speed
The TT-01 is equipped with a stock motor that has a surprising amount of acceleration. The top speed is respectable but suited for the intermediate driver.
If you're looking for more speed, Tamiya offers the Sport Tuned motor. A picture of the RS540 Sport Tuned Motor (Item #53068), can be seen on the right.
The Sport Tuned motor also has a smooth power band making it easy to drive. To maximize speed, Tamiya offers a full ball bearing set for the TT-01. The TT-01 Ball Bearing Set (Item #53497) can be seen on the left. Ball bearings have much less drag compared to bushings. The reduction in drag results in higher speeds and longer run time.
Although the TT-01 features great handling and performance out of the box, the addition of Tamiya hop-up options can fine tune the chassis for your driving needs. Tamiya even has a growing selection of bodies to choose from. The XB Pro TT-01 is currently available with four body choices.
With all these options, Tamiya offers one more. The TT-01 chassis is also available in a kit form with the Ferrari Enzo body for the avid builders. With the TT-01 Enzo Ferrari, you can use your existing electronics, or pick out new equipment at your hobby dealer. Either way, you get the same great features with all Tamiya TT-01 R/C cars.
