On May 15th, 2005 Tamiya TNX nitro powered monster trucks driven by
TRF America drivers Jimmy Jacobson and David Jun
won 1st and 2nd place positions in the small block class at the 5th Annual Pro-Line
Nitro Maxx Challenge. This event was held at Pro-Line's headquarters located
in Beaumont, California.
The TNX's driven by TRF drivers at this event were race prepped versions of
the stock TNX available in the hobby market. Only a few key components were
replaced to enhance the TNX for the rigors of nitro monster truck racing.
The trucks were outfitted with race proven performance accessories from Pro-Line
Racing. This included the Powerstroke shock system, 40 series WABASH wheels
and 40 series Bow-Tie tires. 40 series wheels and tires were chosen for this
event to maximize steering response. To lighten the trucks the stock replacement
starter system was replaced with an OFNA/HPI Roto-starter system. To keep the
fuel supply free from debris all trucks were fitted with fuel filters. The stock
axles and out-drives were replaced with MIP CVD's (constant velocity drives)
that are designed to fit the TNX and coming to a hobby store near you soon.
Thanks to our gracious friends at MIP Tamiya drivers were able to run production
samples at this race. They worked perfectly and we highly recommend them.
The most important part of the winning TNX's is the fact that the stock supplied
high-performance 3.0cc FS-18SR engine developed with the collaboration
of O.S. engines was used to outperform the competition.
