Who needs March Madness, when you have Monster Madness!
Tamiya America attended the 2007 Monster Jam World Finals, where Grave Digger was celebrating it's 25th Anniversary. There were more trucks on display than ever before and the drivers were ready for crushing. Families came from all around and arrived early so when the gate opened they could run in and get in line to meet their favorite drivers.
The R/C demo area is always a big draw to the pit party, due to the fact that the general public will not get a chance to pilot one of these ground vibrating beasts, but can drive a R/C car and perform stunts like our favorite drivers. We had plenty of high flying TNX's keeping the crowd entertained all day long. One of our TNX's was outfitted with a Grave Digger body and pulled off a triple flip and stuck the landing, that 5.2R has some major punch!
The racing began on Saturday night and leave it to the event staff to pull off a bigger bolder show every year. There were more fireworks and bigger jumps to give the crowd what they needed. It seemed that the right lane was give most drivers some issues with cornering that they did not experience in Friday nights qualifiers. Some of the top drivers were knocked out early due to losing time with spin outs and bad cornering.
It came down to the wire with Dennis Anderson's Grave Digger and Batman in the final race. I could see everyone had picked the Digger as the next world Champion. Batman had other ideas as he pulled off a major victory over a more experienced Dennis Anderson. It was good to see the underdog win such a great race.
Freestyle is what everyone waits for and we saw some great performances by the best in the business. At one point we had a three-way tie for first place with a score of 29. When the dust settled the Captain's Curse pulled off some amazing stunts and took home the trophy for 2007, which broke his curse.
Wait that's not all! People started leaving the event and then a Grave Digger flew into the arena, followed by another and this kept going until there were five Grave Diggers flying off the jumps and running into each other. This continued going until one by one all five Diggers ended up on their lids and the crowd was screaming more than they screamed that night!
It was one exciting event and Dennis Anderson knows how to end a Party!
