May 3rd 2009 was supposed to be the Memphis TCS race, one of the most anticipated events of the year. This event draws the most diverse group of racers, from places such as Wisconsin, Virginia, Alabama; 11 different states were represented in the pre-entries. Sadly it was not meant to be, Mother Nature decided to intervene and wash away any hopes of a TCS race. Fortunately the Memphis TCS race has been rescheduled for June 14th.
However, for the two dozen or so racers who actually showed up, it was not a total wash-out. The rain stopped around 8:30 in the morning, by 11:30 the track was dry enough to hold a free fun race, thanks to the valiant efforts of the Mid-South Racing Association track crew. There were two heats of M-Chassis, one heat each of Novice, Sr. Spec, F1 and GT sedans. It was now around 1:30 in the afternoon, two qualifying heats had been run and the mains were just minutes away when the skies opened up and once again the rain fell. But this did not dampen the spirits of the Memphis racers; a 12 minute Main-In-The-Rain was announced, open to any racer who ran a qualifying heat. 15 brave souls took their place on the driver stand and with the rain coming down the race began. It was clear that Jarvis Parker and his M03 Swift had made the right adjustments and was clearly the class of the field, putting six laps on his nearest competitor.
The Memphis race turned out to be a fun weekend after all, despite all the rain. Hopefully many of the TSC racers can make the trek back to Memphis for the re-scheduled race.
