Tamiya's fun and easy to assemble wheelie kits come in different shapes and sizes. The Lunch Box and Midnight Pumpkin were the first generation wheelie kits to hit the pavement in 1987 and the Wild Willy 2, the second generation wheelie chassis, first appeared in 1999. Tamiya's current wheelie kits are available in two chassis platforms. The first platform features a simple tub design, which incorporates a swing axle front suspension and a rigid rear solid axle. The second platform, referred to as the WR-02 platform incorporates 4-wheel double wishbone independent suspension fitted on a simple monocoque ladder frame. Both platforms include wheelie bars for fun R/C action.

Tamiya's wheelie kits are also available pre-assembled under the Tamiya XB-Pro (Expert-Built) product line. The VW Bus, Mitsubishi Montero and Suzuki Jimny are equipped with Tamiya's new antenna less 2.4Ghz radio system.

The Wheelie kits and XB Ready to Runs that use a polycarbonate body material are the Volkswagen Wheelie and the Suzuki Jimny. All other wheelie radio control product have ABS hard plastic bodies for enhanced realism and detail.
