The results are in!
The 2005 Reedy Race has come to a conclusion and the results are in. Congratulations
to Craig Drescher of Team Associated for winning the Invitational class, Josh
Newman winning for a second time in three years the Open Mod Class and Peter Robinson
for winning the Open Spec Class. All three drivers have done a great job at beating
the best that the RC racing world had to offer.
Invite Race Recap
The 2005 Reedy Touring Car Race of Champions saw some of the most competitive
racing in years. As you can see from the list of invitational drivers the world’s
best were here. For those of you new to the Reedy Invitational race format,
the racing was done in a way that put racers in a more exciting format as compared
to traditional R/C racing. In the course of two race days the Invite drivers
raced each other in a series of 8 races that spanned both days. Race heats were
determined by Mike Reedy himself as he had all 34 Invite racers race each other.
Depending on the finishing order the racers were awarded points. If a racer
won a heat race that person was awarded 1 point, 2nd place earned 2 points and
so on. The idea was to get the least amount of points by the end of the 8 heat
race series. Two throw outs were used to get rid of a drivers two worst finishes.
Using two throw outs meant that the best possible score that a racer could achieve
was a 6.
This year, the Invitational class winner was decided by a tie-breaker as Craig
Drescher and Jilles Groskamp were tied in points after the final race of the
day. Tie breakers were settled by counting the number of best finishes of the
rounds that count. In this instance it was 6 rounds as the worst two are thrown
out. For Craig Drescher and Jilles Groskamp the first tie-breaker looked at
the number of 1st place finishes they had respectively…….tied. Next
it looked at the number of 2nd place finishes……….tied. This
worked its way until all finishes were exhausted. Since throw outs are indeed
throw outs, those finishes couldn’t be used under Reedy Invite Rules.
In this situation the final tie was broken by looking at the single fastest
run of the two racers involved in the tie. Craig Drescher won the title by edging
his competitor as he had a run that was just under a second faster than Jilles
Groskamp. This is how close the competition was at this years’ 2005 Reedy
Race of Touring Car Champions.
Open Mod and Spec Racing
This year the Open mod and Spec classes were settled quickly as both Josh Newman
and Peter Robinson won their respective classes by clinching the Triple “A”
Main format in two races. Josh Newman has now won twice at the Tamiya America,
Inc. facility in the Open Mod class and he has yet again earned an invite to
next year’s Invitational clash of the titans. Peter Robinson is no stranger
to winning as he is a former TCS National Champion and has proven that he can
still mix it up with the best.
