Among the many entries, the Toyota Celica GT-Four RC is regarded as the WRC dominant machine. It is powered by a 2 liter liquied cooled in-line four DOHC turbocharged engine, that produces more than 299hp. This tremendous power is transmitted via a 6 speed transmission to the cars sophisticated 4WD system. This 4WD system utilizes an electronically controlled torque-splitter to efficiently transmit a 50-50 power distribution tot he front and rear differential under normal operation; in addition, the ration of the torque-splitter is automatically shifted to the best possible state if the system senses a change in road surface or even a different driving syle. The dimensions of the Celica GT-Four RC are considerably larger than other rivals, which gives it a weight disadvantage. This problem was solved by using lightweight, but tough materials in the suspension units, such as titanium and aluminum.

With its technological advancements, the Toyota Celica GT-Four RC, driven by Carlos Sainz won the 1992 Safari Rally and several other races, clinching the 1992 WRC Driver's title.
