Following finishing an impressive 6th in its debut Dakar Rally, an 18 day 11,000km treacherous journey crossing through the Sahara desert, the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg now makes its way to Tamiya's 1/10 R/C car series. An awesome off-road chassis combined with a perfectly reproduced scale body, it doesn't get much better than this!
About the Touareg Dakar Rally
Making its debut in this year’s Dakar Rally, unquestionably the toughest rally in the world, the
expectations of the Touareg team was simple, just finish the race. With a 57% retirement rate
in the car category, making it one of the toughest Dakar rallies ever, not only did the Touareg
meet these expectations, it superceded them. B. Saby in car no. 224 finished 6th overall, and
the “Queen of the Desert” J. Kleinschmidt, the only ever female winner of the Rally, took out 1st
place in stage 16, and secured 4 other top-5 stage finishes to climb from 123rd place to finish
17th overall. The Touareg rally version features large air-intakes on the roof and bonnet, and
cleaning fan in the cockpit, an indispensable fitting for desert running. The Touareg displayed
its power, maneuverability and speed in its debut year, a declaration of things to come.
Tough and Reliable
Ladder frame style bathtub chassis not only provides accurate reproduction of the actual Dakar Rally Touareg, but also durability and top driving performance. 4WD drive train is powered by a motor mounted in the front, with a universal joint propeller shaft linking front gearbox with rear axle. A front and rear differential gear ensures smooth cornering, with option of rear diff lock assembly for getting best running performance on a rough track.
Oil Damper Suspension
High quality oil dampers are combined with double wishbone suspension in the front and 4-link rigid suspension in the rear, providing excellent shock absorption and sufficient stroke no matter the terrain. High grip tire tread also adds to unbeatable performance on off-road tracks.
