First released in 1998 on the TL-01 chassis, Tamiya re-releases the 1998 Ford Escort WRC
on our new TT-01 chassis. Body accurately depicts the Ford Escort as used during her last
season in the World Rally Championships.
About the 1998 Ford Escort WRC
After a long history as Ford’s works rally car, 1998 marked the historical final year for the
Escort, being replaced by the Ford Focus for the 1999 season. At the wheel of the turbocharged
4-cylinder Escort for 1998 was Finnish world champion Juha Kankkunen, widely regarded as
one of the most skilled rally drivers in the history of the WRC and the first driver ever to take
out 4 drivers championships (1986, 1987, 1991 & 1993). Producing consistent results
throughout the season including second place in Monte Carlo, Kenya and Great Britain and a
total of 7 podium finishes, Kankkunen finished 4th overall in the drivers championship.
About the Model
- Overall length: 425mm
- Assembly kit version of the 1998 Ford Escort WRC re-released on the TT-01 chassis.
- TT-01 chassis features a 4WD shaft driven bathtub frame, 4-wheel independent double
wishbone suspension, front and rear differential gearbox and electronic speed controller.
- Body, wing, side mirrors, stickers, wheels and tires remain unchanged from original kit.
- All new packaging layout.
- Powered by a Type 540 motor.
- Kit includes TEU-101BK electronic speed controller.
