Alfa Romeo Gtv

  1. Description

During the Paris Motor Show held in October 1994, the Alfa Romeo firm of Italy almost monopolized the attention of onlookers by unveiling their new GTV and Spider. Designed by Pininfarina and the Alfa Design Center, these two automobiles exude an air of finesse unique to the renowned Italian marque.

The new generation GTV broke the tradition of the firm's sports car line by incorporating a front wheel drive configuration, but the sporty feeling remains the same as its predecessors. Two types of powerplant are prepared for the GTV; a 2-liter V-6 cylinder turbocharged engine, and a normally aspirated, in-line 4-cylinder DOHC "Twin Spark" unit. The highly sophisticated front MacPherson Strut and rear multi-link suspension system is mated to quick responding steering, providing and unmatched driving pleasure which is truly worthy of the GTV designation (V is for Veloce; "fast" in Italian).

The invigorating look seems like a direct reflection from the designer's image sketch, and can be described as a work of art. The smoothly contoured front hood features four openings for the headlights and the traditional "Alfa shield and emblem" motif. Characteristic press lines on the body sides further accentuate its wedge-shaped silhouette. In contrast to its avant-garde exterior, the interior is tastefully finished to the firm's usual high standards. The GTV has successfully blended Alfa Romeo's automotive expertise in an Ultra modern package.
